Hunting Trips

Guided Hunts

Our guided hunts are structured around a 7-day trip: one day riding into camp, five full days of hunting, and one day riding out. Most hunts are conducted at a 1 guide to 2 hunters ratio, with 1-on-1 guided hunts available for those who prefer a more personalized hunt.

Guided hunts include experienced guides, dependable mountain horses, camp equipment, vehicles, and excellent cooks depending on the camp setup. Hunts are available for archery, muzzleloader, and rifle seasons for elk, deer, bear, and moose.

Pursue Colorado Elk

Elk hunting at Hubbard Creek Outfitters takes you into prime high-country terrain across the Gunnison National Forest and surrounding private land.

Hunts take place across Gunnison National Forest and surrounding private land, working timber, bedding areas, and travel routes where elk consistently move. Our guides understand how elk use this terrain throughout the season and position hunters accordingly. Expect early starts, long days, and real opportunity in country that produces.

Mule Deer Hunting

Mule deer hunting comes down to patience and making the right move.

We hunt a mix of open ground and broken terrain where deer feed, bed, and travel. Success comes from glassing, positioning, and staying disciplined when the opportunity shows. These hunts reward hunters who are willing to put in the time and move when it counts.

Black Bear Hunts

Bear hunting requires attention to detail and time in the right areas.

These hunts focus on active feeding zones and travel corridors in thick country. Our guides work off sign and seasonal patterns to keep hunters in productive areas. It’s a slower, more deliberate hunt that pays off when done right.

Guided Moose Hunts

Moose hunts are fully guided and built around patience and steady movement.

These animals live in thick, wet ground and don’t move fast, but they don’t make mistakes often either. Our approach is simple and deliberate, working known habitat and staying ready when an opportunity presents itself.

Mountain Lion Hunts

This is a hunt that depends on conditions, timing, and persistence.

We work terrain where lions travel and rely on experience reading sign and staying on it. It’s not a fast hunt, but for those willing to stick with it, it’s one of the most challenging pursuits in the mountains.

Turkey Hunts

Turkey hunting is active, fast-moving, and built around timing.

Mornings start early, working birds as they move between roost and feed. It’s a different pace from big game, but it requires just as much awareness and positioning to get it done.

Colorado Big Game Country

Hubbard Creek Outfitters operates in Colorado’s Game Management Unit 521 in the Gunnison National Forest, one of the state’s most consistent big game regions. The country here holds strong populations of elk, mule deer, and black bear, along with opportunities for moose.

Our hunts take place across high elevation forest, open basins, and private land bordering National Forest ground. With access to more than 6,000 acres of private land along with surrounding public ground, hunters have the opportunity to pursue game across a wide range of terrain and habitat.

Camps, Horses & Game Care

Hunts operate out of both backcountry tent camps and our cabin basecamp depending on the hunt style you choose. Our well-trained mountain horses are steady and experienced in the steep terrain common to this region.

Transportation can be arranged from Grand Junction or Montrose airports to hunting camp and back after the hunt. After a successful harvest, we assist with field care of your meat and trophy and transport game to the local processor or taxidermist.

Hubbard Creek Outfitters is a family-owned operation, licensed and bonded in the State of Colorado, built around dependable guides, strong horses, and well-run camps.

Drop Camps & Backcountry Access

For hunters who prefer to hunt on their own, we offer several drop camps located in the higher elevations of the Gunnison National Forest. Hunters and gear are packed into camp by horseback, where quality tent camps are already established in proven hunting areas.

Drop camps give experienced hunters the independence to run their own hunt while still benefiting from our logistics, camp setup, and pack-out support when game is harvested.
